LANSING, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Stillman family lost their daughter, Emily to meningitis earlier this year. Wednesday, their family grew exponentially.
Emily Stillman, a 19-year-old from West Bloomfield, died in February. One of her lungs was transplanted into Joseph Steposki of Wyoming in Spectrum Butterworth's first lung transplant. Her kidney went to Randy Schumacher of Ubly, Michigan.
Wednesday, the Stillmans, the Steponskis and the Schumachers met, hugged, cried, and laughed.
"I feel like we're all family now. They have a piece of Emily; we're all family," said Emily's mother, Alicia Stillman. "This is the one thing that has given me solace since Emily's death: Knowing the people she saved and the lives we were able to change."
The families met in Lansing as the organization Gift of Life Michigan held its annual Organ Donor Awareness Day.
