GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The people who will help the people shopping for health insurance online are not sure if they will get a torrent or a trickle once the market opens on Tuesday.

"We're in the starting blocks and we're just ready for that race to begin," said Michelle Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, of Cherry Street Health Services, is the leader of efforts to help people shop on the marketplace in West Michigan.

The marketplace is aimed at people who are not now insured, or have purchased insurance on their own. Registration will occur at http://www.healthcare.gov. People with questions can call (866) 299-1339.

The Michigan marketplace will feature insurance offerings from 13 companies; it's the most crowded market in the nation.

"There will be a lot of assistance available-- we don't have any official numbers of what these plans will cost, but ideally you'll be paying no more than eight percent of your annual income for your health insurance premiums," Fitzgerald told WZZM 13.

An email address will be required to log in to the marketplace. Cherry Street and other health care providers will provide counselors with computers to help people register, starting next Tuesday.
