BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WZZM) - The Cereal City is headed for prime-time television. The creator of 'Breaking Bad,' Vince Gilligan is fresh off his Emmy win and has announced his next project will be a police crime drama called 'Battle Creek,' and take place in Battle Creek, Michigan.

'Breaking Bad' became one of the most popular shows on TV, and its gritty raw depiction of drugs and meth landed the show a lot of praise, so the announcement about Battle Creek being the follow up got a lot of national attention.

'Battle Creek' will be a drama about two detectives; one is a trusting naïf, the other a cynic who relies on guile and deception. They find themselves in competition with an F.B.I. agent whom they see as the epitome of a crime-fighter, though he is far from that.

Battle Creek residents are excited by the prospect of having a show about them. Linda Ferybler, the CEO of the Calhoun County Visitors Bureau is one of those people. "I think they chose Battle Creek because it is a great city, and it is a great name for a TV show."

Production seems to be moving forward. Battle Creek Police Chief Jackie Hampton has said that he has already been contacted to block off traffic in the city sometime in October.

If the show is successful the police chief hopes it will draw more tourism to Battle Creek. He said he was told 'Breaking Bad' brought more tourism to Albuquerque, New Mexico as a result of its success.

The show will air on CBS and 13 episodes are currently planned. Police Chief Jackie Hampton would like to suggest one actor that could play him: "Denzel Washington," says Hampton.
