WAVERLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Deputies say three people were sent to the hospital in an accident involving a motorcycle and a van in Van Buren County.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday on M-40 south of M-43 in Waverly Township, north of Paw Paw.

Deputies say a motorcycle carrying a Paw Paw couple was southbound on M-40 when a northbound van made a left turn to enter a private drive.  The motorcycle operator could not avoid hitting the van, and he and his passenger were thrown from the bike.

The driver and passenger of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries, including head trauma.  They were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.  They were taken to Bronson Hospital Kalamazoo.

The van driver was also taken to the hospital complaining of chest pains.

Deputies say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
