GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The John Ball Zoo is breaking ground on the new Crawford Tigers of the Realm exhibit.
This exhibit will bring tigers back to the zoo after six years without the animals.
Two tiger habitats will be included in the project. The first will open in the summer of 2014, and the second in the summer of 2015.
Three tigers will inhabit the exhibit at first: two brothers and an unrelated female.
Naming donors Bill and Marilyn Crawford will be turning the first shovel at the groundbreaking ceremony. Other significant donors include the Doug and Maria DeVos Foundation, VanderWeide Family Foundation, James and Jane Welch Foundation, Kate Pew Wolters and the Grand Rapids Community Foundation.
