MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- Emerging businesses in West Michigan are participating in a Shark Tank-esque experience.

E-Merge in Muskegon is holding their annual "elevator pitch" competition Wednesday night.

An "elevator pitch" is how an entrepreneur would sell a business to a potential investor if they ran into them on an elevator, and only had the time between floors to explain the idea.

Participants will get two minutes to present their business plan before a panel of judges. Entries are split into two divisions: high school and college students, and an open division for people of all ages.

The winners of the student division will get cash prizes. The winner of the open division will have the opportunity to present their idea to an angel investor group.

The student pitches start at 4:00 p.m. and the pitches from the open division start at 6:30 p.m. The event is at the auditorium at Baker College, in Muskegon.
