GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Scott Hammer, the 51-year-old man accused of murdering his 29-year-old girlfriend, waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday afternoon in 63rd District Court.
His attorney, Jeff Kortes, asked the judge to grant Hammer a forensic exam to test his competency. He expects to be back in court with the results within six weeks.

Hammer allegedly killed Danielle Linderman on October 23 in his brother's basement where they were living. His brother, Burt Hammer, told WZZM 13 his brother said he found inappropriate text messages on Linderman's phone.
Burt Hammer said that led to an argument, and eventually her death.
