GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Four area colleges have created brand new scholarship packages for local middle school students.

The Grand Rapids Community Foundation announced Tuesday that Aquinas College, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, and Grand Rapids Community College will each offer their own scholarships to promote college education to Grand Rapids youth.

The scholarships were created to support the GRCF's Challenge Scholars program, which is designed to prepare students for college. The program is geared toward the sixth graders at Harrison Park School and Westwood Middle School. Students who complete their program requirements move on to Union High School.

Each school's package is different, and the scholarship money will differ with each student's family income.
