HART, Mich. (WZZM) -- The line of products an Oceana County company makes are small, but they play a big role in holiday meals and special events.
Each year, tons of Michigan cherries end up at Gray & Company in Hart. The company processed about 15 million pounds of light sweet cherries. The fruit is sized, pitted, and processed in batches of 2,000 to 100,000 pounds.
The processing plant in Hart produces CherryMan products, like maraschino cherries for mixed drinks and others to compliment baked goods, ice cream, and chocolates candies.
CherryMan can be found on store shelf in the U.S. Mexico, South America, and southeast Asia." And that's something 140 Michigan employees take pride in. "It is amazing to go in the store and find our product on the shelf," said employee Judy Copenhaver.
CherryMan has a new all natural line without high fructose corn syrup or preservatives. The jars have a QR code that links customers to the farm where the cherries were grown.
The company does use some cherries grown in the northwest and a few company leaders are based in Oregon, but Williams says the heart of CherryMan is here in Hart. "We are proud to be made in Michigan."
