The hiring process might be slower during the holidays, but this is no excuse to put your job search on hold until after the New Year. There are plenty of reasons to rev up your search during the holiday season, and this diligence might just land you the greatest gift of all - a job!
1. Keep up the Momentum!
Maintaining momentum is a lot easier than re-capturing it
2. What better time for Networking?
Many opportunities for expanding your network.
Be prepared to answer "so where do you work?"
Remember: The best way to find a great job isn't to apply for one-it's to be recommended for one.
3. A reason to Reconnect.
The holidays are a great time to reconnect. This is the time of the year when it's natural to get back in touch with people. A greeting from you puts you back at the top of their radar.
4. The hiring continues...
Some people give up job searching between Thanksgiving and New Years because they think no one is hiring. Not true!
In many companies, hiring actually heats up in December as managers and business owners have money left in their budgets and want to spend their budget rather than potentially losing it.
Because companies slow down during the last month or so of the year, hiring managers may have more time to answer phone calls, conduct interviews
5. Your Competition is at the mall : )
Many other people take time off from their job hunts this time of year, which makes it the perfect time to surpass the competition. Make yourself flexible & available. Be willing to interview at "inconvenient" times.
Making yourself available and eager during the holidays shows you're motivated, hardworking, and willing to go the extra mile. This display of drive could be the difference between you and another candidate who put their job search on a holiday hiatus
No matter what time of year it is, remember to:
Set goals and celebrate wins. For example, set a goal for making X-number of networking contacts this holiday season - and celebrate when you hit your goal!
