COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) -- The West Michigan Whitecaps held their winter banquet less than three weeks after the fire that damaged Fifth Third Ballpark, and some notable Detroit Tigers were in attendance.

The Winter Baseball Banquet was held Thursday evening at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids. It was the Whitecaps' first public event since the January 3 fire that destroyed the first base concourse, 12 suites, and caused a partial roof collapse.

2013 American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer, and Tigers general manager David Dombrowski attended, along with 20 Tigers players, coaches and staff.

Proceeds from the Winter Baseball Banquet go to the Whitecaps Community Foundation, which will donate funds to the YMCA Inner-City Youth Baseball and Softball Program and the Detroit Tigers Foundation. More than $565,000 has been raised through the Whitecaps Winter Banquet for the charities.
