Squirrel invades substation, knocks power out to 3K people

COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. - A squirrel got into a Consumers Energy substation near the Fifth Third Ballpark, knocking power out to at least 3,000 people.

Utility spokesman Roger Morgenstern said customers were left in the dark just after after 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 17. A crew has been working to restore power, and they expect it to be back on around 12:45 p.m.

Consumers Energy has a real-time outage map for more information, showing that the outage affects an area north of I-96 along Alpine Avenue NW to West River Drive.

The squirrel did not survive.
