LANSING, MICH. - A new bill introduced in Lansing this week would prevent stores in Michigan from using plastic bags.
Customers would still be able to bring their own plastic bags but the legislation prohibits businesses from giving them out.
The bill exempts reusable bags and bags without handles. Stores found in violation of the bill would face a fine of up to $300.
Two states currently have bans on plastic bags, Hawaii and California.
