HOLLAND, MICH. - It's been 10 days since two teenagers were swept away by strong currents at Holland State Park. On Friday, the second body was recovered.
The family and friends of Christopher Mimis, 17 and Vincent Green, 14, can finally put their loved ones to rest, after days in the water.
It all started the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 31. Ottawa County Sheriff deputies and the Coast Guard were dispatched to Holland State Park for a water rescue. They said a group of four boys were swimming in the swim area when they all began to struggle. Two of the boys were able to make it to the rocks near the north pier, but Mimis and Green went under.
The next day, Thursday, Sept. 1, crews found Green's body in the rocks along the pier where the teens were last seen.
On Saturday, the water search was suspended, but the Coast Guard continued to search along the shore line.
Wednesday, Ottawa County Sheriff deputies and the DNR resumed the water search for Mimis.
Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, a body tentatively identified as Mimis was found 300 yards north of the pier.
Some of Mimis' friends didn't want to go on camera, but they said there is a degree of peace in knowing they're beloved friend's body was finally found.
