Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich) is a 16 year old boy whose got it all; he's cute, smart and athletic. The only problem is...he lives in Gatlin, South Carolina; a small town with not much to offer. Ethan is ready to get out of town, and can't wait for college!!! However, things change when Lena (Alice Englert) moves into town. Lena isn't your average girl, she's a witch, or "caster," the name she prefers. Ethan now faces many challenges as he becomes involved in the supernatural world of witches and superpowers...things aren't so boring anymore!!! Based on a novel, Beautiful Creatures is a sci-fi teen romance, with witches...not vampires or werewolf's.

Ethan and Lena are two young love birds. They are very supportive of one another. When Lena realizes that Ethan could be harmed, due to their relationship, she uses her powers, which causes Ethan to forget about her. Knowing she'd be sad and alone, Lena cared more about Ethan's well-being than her own happiness. They had a very sweet, innocent teen romance.
The movie has an all star cast, to name a few; Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis and Emma Thompson.
Teen romances have been focusing on vampires, werewolf's, zombies and now a witch. This movie was a little confusing in parts, and didn't seem to have a smooth flow. However, it's an appropriate movie for pre-teens and teens.
Sexual Content: Mild
• Ethan and Lena passionately kiss throughout the film.
• Lena's evil cousin, Ridley, uses her powers to entice men, whom she passionately kisses throughout the film. She wears revealing outfits as well.

Violent Content: Moderate
• We see a train run over a teenage boy.
• We see several flashbacks of the Civil War...burning homes and soldiers being shot.
• During a reenactment of the Civil War, a teen is shot, and a man bleeds to death.
• Ethan is thrown against a book case by supernatural powers.
• A set of windows in a classroom shatter all over a room full of students.

Crude or Profane Language: Moderate
• "Sh--," "d--n," "h---," "b--ch," and "a--," are said.

Drugs and Alcohol Content: Mild
• We see character's drinking wine.
• Teens drink beer.

Will Kids Like It? Yes
• I think teens will like the character's and the suspense of the film.

Overall, this was not my favorite supernatural teen romance, however it is appropriate, and I think teens will like it! Depending on the child, I recommend this for kids ages 12+.
