World Blood Donor Day: Donate blood to help curb 'summer shortage'

Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.

Summer is always an extremely challenging time of year for blood donation centers and the hospitals they serve. According to the American Red Cross, between vacation schedules and severe weather -- regular donations schedules see serious impacts that cause what they call a "summer shortage."

That is one shortage that nearly 5 million Americans can not afford to muscle through. So, in partnership with America's Blood Centers and American Red Cross, Nexcare Bandages is honoring the importance of donating blood on World Blood Donor Day through its ninth annual Nexcare Give Program.

Nexcare is handing out exclusive bandages around this year's theme, "Roll Up a Sleeve and Give Where You Live." The bandages are limited-edition and feature landmarks and architecture from around the world.
