WYOMING, MICH. - An autopsy was planned for Friday on the remains of Ana Carrillo, a Wyoming mother of three who was last seen alive in early September.
Wyoming police said her remains were found Thursday, but declined to disclose the location. The discovery came as her accused killer, 39-year-old Andrew Hudson, had his felony case moved to Kent County Circuit Court.
Hudson is charged with open murder, a potential life offense, and tampering with evidence, a 10-year felony. He waived a preliminary hearing in Wyoming District Court on Thursday, sending the case to circuit court.
“It’s moved to circuit court for further negotiations or trial,’’ Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said.
Investigators were seen Thursday afternoon in a wooded area along Maguire Avenue south of Three Mile Road NE near where the mother of Andrew Hudson lives. Wyoming police are remaining tight-lipped.
“The recovery of Ana Carrillo’s remains is a critical development in the ongoing investigation of her death, therefore there will be very few details, if any, released regarding the circumstances surrounding this discovery,’’ Wyoming Police Capt. Kim Koster said in a news release.
Carrillo was Hudson’s former girlfriend and mother of his three children. She was last seen alive on Sept. 3. Police say they believe Hudson lured Carrillo to his home on Colby Avenue SW under the pretense of picking up the children. They were not there, however.
Investigators interviewed members of Hudson’s family and obtained a search warrant for his home. He was booked into the Kent County Jail on Sept. 8 and charged with Carrillo’s murder about five weeks later.
A search of Hudson's home turned up blood evidence that has been linked to Carrillo. Police also found evidence that multiple clothing items were set afire in a burn barrel, including Aeropostale brand buttons. Carrillo was last seen wearing an Aeropostale clothing item, court records show.
Three others, including Hudson’s parents, have been charged with lying to investigators.
