Battle Creek man accused of domestic assault, kidnapping

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WZZM) -- A 22-year-old Battle Creek man was taken into custody Friday on domestic assault and kidnapping charges.

Police say a witness called to report the domestic assault shortly before 1 p.m.

The victim, a woman who had a small child with her, was being assaulted and running from a vehicle in the area of Upton and Washington, according to authorities. The suspect initially drove away when he realized police were being called, but he returned, grabbed the woman, dragged her and the child back to the car, and drove away with them.

Investigators say the man took the woman and her child to another location on Washington, where the woman convinced him to leave.

Officers caught the suspect on the 400 block of W. VanBuren St. and took him to the Calhoun County jail.
