Battle Creek man injured in assault

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. - A 19-year-old Battle Creek man was assaulted and robbed early Monday, Battle Creek police reported.

Officers were called to Bronson Battle Creek at 1:31 a.m. when the man arrived at the hospital by a private vehicle and was seeking medical help.

The man told officers he had gone with a friend to a party at an apartment in the first block of Greentree Boulevard at The Arbors. The victim said within 10 minutes of arriving a man approached and began to assault him. Then several other people joined him and they all assaulted the victim.

One of the men displayed a handgun and the victim was hit in the head from the back and he fell to the floor. His friend said he was hit with the gun.

The victim's friend then helped the victim away from the apartment and drove him to the hospital. He sustained injuries to his face and head.

He told police he was robbed of a gold bracelet, ring, phone and sunglasses valued at $1,650.

The victim said he doesn't know why he was assaulted other than that the first man, 19, had been seeing the victim's former girlfriend and one person attempted to take his sunglasses when he first arrived.

Police said they are seeking a warrant for a 19-year-old man named by the victim as one of the men who assaulted him.
