Fatal Kalamazoo shooter arraigned in court

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - The man responsible for killing on person and injuring another in a shooting on Monday was arraigned in court. 

Deonte Lamar Burdine, 20, of Kalamazoo was charged in court after being arrested for a fatal shooting in Kalamazoo on Monday, April 10.

Burdine was charged with open murder, assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm and four counts of felony firearm. In a news release from Kalamazoo Public Safety, his bond was denied.

Around 6:20 p.m. on Monday, police were called to the area of North Church and Franklin Street on reports of a fight and found Bernand Kye and a 40-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Kye later died in the hospital.

The woman struck is in stable condition and is expected to be okay. 

Police are still requesting witnesses come forward with any information. They believe there may be useful video that was recorded during the incident that could help further the investigation.
