GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Police have arrested a man following a 3-hour standoff on the city's Southeast side on Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
Grand Rapids police say it started with a call about a domestic assault around 6:30 p.m. at a home on Delaware Street SE. A man at the house was seen forcing a woman into a car against her will -- another woman approached the car and was assaulted before the man drove off with the first woman in the car.
Police were led to a house on Merrifeild Street SE near Blaine Avenue SE. Police tried to get the suspect to come out of the house just after midnight, but he refused. Police blocked off a portion of the area while they waited for a search warrant and continued to make attempts to get the suspect out of the house. They were engaged in a standoff for about 3-hours.
Police were finally able to enter the home around 4 a.m. on Sunday morning and arrested the suspect, a 49-year-old man, without incident. The woman he had taken from the home on Delaware Street was recovered and interviewed by police. This case has been sent to the Kent County Prosecutor's Office to be reviewed on Monday.
