Homeless man nabbed in Internet sex sting ordered to stand trial

KENTWOOD, MICH. - A former Florida man has been ordered to stand trial on charges he used the Internet to find children to sexually abuse.

Michigan State Police arrested 29-year-old David Claire Riggs as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected Internet child predators.

He was nabbed Sept. 1 on South Division Avenue south of 44th Street after meeting with an undercover officer with the intent of buying children for sexual exploitation, according to investigators and court records.

Riggs was charged with child sexually abusive commercial activity and using a computer to commit a crime, specifically, sexual assault. Both are felonies punishable by up to  20 years in prison.

Kentwood District Court Judge William G. Kelly on Thursday determined there was enough evidence to send the case to trial in Kent County Circuit Court.

Riggs has been in Michigan for four months and is listed in court records as being homeless. He came here from northern Florida and was working at a Kentwood business, court records show.
