Lawyer seeks re-sentencing in crash that killed teen

Teen driver seeks new sentence

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The attorney for a Comstock Park teenager, sent to prison for a deadly crash, is asking that his client be re-sentenced.

A judge last month sentenced 18-year-old Armando Mendoza Jr. to between 3 and-a-half and 15 years in prison for reckless driving causing death.

The crash happened a year ago this week, on Vinton Avenue near Nine Mile Road Northwest in Alpine Township.

Investigators say Mendoza was driving at 110 miles per hour when his car left the road and struck a tree. 16-year-old Alyssa Eggerding, a junior at Sparta High School, died from her injuries.

Three other teens were critically injured.
