Man charged in November murder on Grand Rapids' West Side

Cavari Brown arraigned in court

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - One man is in police custody facing an open murder charge in relation to the shooting death of Gregory Lee Rogers.

Cavari Jamoul Brown as arraigned Friday, March 10, on an open murder charge.

Rogers, 35, was shot around 12:16 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at a home near the intersection of Bridge Street and Straight Avenue NW. He later died at an area hospital.

The Grand Rapids Police Department initially considered it a death investigation and possible suicide, not a homicide.

Brown is also facing charges of felony firearm, second offense, and habitual offender, fourth offense. Authorities say these charges are related but not part of this case.

He is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference on March 21.
