Family: Man in hospice since 'road rage' beating dies

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, MICH. - The man beaten during what police call a road rage incident in late September has died.

William "Andy" McFarlan, 64, had been in hospice care since shortly after the Sept. 29 attack. Investigators last week said they did not expect him to survive from his injuries.

McFarlan was in the area of Whitneyville Avenue and 60th Street when he was allegedly beaten by 18-year-old Christian Hillman.

Although investigators describe the incident as road rage related, there is no indication as to how it started. Hillman claims McFarlan grabbed his neck.

Another witness in a court appearance last week stated they were driving an ATV and became separated from Hillman. When they found each other again, the witness stated he saw Hillman kicking a man who was unconscious on the ground, next to his pick-up truck.

Prosecutors have said if McFarlan died, the charges against Hillman would be raised to second-degree murder. He currently is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the McFarlan family.
