Tammi Spofford released from prison

LUDINGTON, MICH. - Tammi Lynne Spofford has been released from prison.

She's the mother of Eric Knyse, the 20-year-old Mason County man who shot and killed Michigan State Trooper Paul Butterfield in 2013.

Department of Corrections records show Spofford was paroled on Thursday, April 6. She pleaded no contest to a felony for helping her son steal a vehicle in an attempt to leave the state.

Spofford will remain under supervised probation until July 2018.

Knyse was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Trooper Butterfield. He took his own life in prison in 2014.
