Pastor pleads no contest to larceny charge

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -- Sentencing is scheduled for October 6, for the former pastor of a Georgetown Township church who pleaded no contest to a larceny charge Friday.

Gary Petersen's plea deal means he'll pay $4,000 in restitution and serve probation with community service. He gets no prison time, and an embezzlement charge was dropped.

He was pastor of Wellspring Community Church when he used a church credit card, which other church leaders didn't know about, to pay for a 2010 cruise with his wife in Rome. Petersen also used it to pay for a resort vacation in Avon, Colorado. He paid for personal meals and shopping trips with it, too.

At sentencing in October, the judge will indicate how long Peterson's probation will be, according to the court clerk.
