Person in custody for Barry County homicide, fire

Police are trying to figure out what led to the murder of a woman in Barry County.

BALTIMORE TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A person is in police custody following a woman's death and man found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police responded early Sunday, June 11, to the area of Bird and Maple Grove roads on a report of a man shot in the neck, according to a Barry County Sheriff's Department news release. 

He is identified as 31-year-old Nathan Farrell of Lake Odessa.

As police continued an investigation, they found 26-year-old Cheyenne Bowling dead at a nearby home. They've since classified her death as a homicide.

Police say hours later, crews were dispatched to a fire on Coats Grove Road near M-66. It's believed the fire and the earlier shooting and death are connected, but police did not detail the extent in the release.

An autopsy for determine Bowling's cause of death is set for Monday.
