Driver in fatal US 131 crash released from jail

The 20 year old suspected of killing a 15 year old while driving drunk is out of the Allegan County jail.

ALLEGAN, MICH. - The 20 year old suspected of killing a 15 year old while driving drunk is out of the Allegan County jail.

Early Sunday morning, deputies responded to a crash on U.S. 131 in Allegan County near Wayland Township. Alexis Danielle Brown-Johnson, 15, was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

Deputies said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver was expected to be arraigned Monday, March 20, but the prosecutor's office says they need to gather more information.

Deputies met with the Allegan County Prosecutor's Office, and prosecutors will be delaying the issuance of a charge until the toxicology results come back from the driver.

The sheriff's office says they fully anticipate that the driver will be eventually charged

The driver was going southbound on U.S. 131 when deputies said she lost control of her car, sending it into a spin before hitting a fence and striking a ditch. Two other passengers were hurt -- Taliyah Zziwambazza, 19 from Kentwood and Bianca Monet Bland, 17 from Grand Rapids.

Both are expected to be OK.

Deputies said the four were on their way to a party in the Kalamazoo area, and the sheriff's office believes alcohol was a factor.

Deputies are not releasing the drivers name because no charges have been filed yet. If that happens, they will do so.
