Grand Rapids Police release new details about stolen cruiser

Man charged after stealing GRPD

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Grand Rapids Police have released new information after a police cruiser was stolen earlier this month.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, 24-year-old Daniel Rademacher took the cruiser on October 4, 2016.

On that day, police were called to the 1000 block of Benjamin Avenue Southeast, in response to a call of a man down in the alley.  When police arrived on the scene, an officer left his cruiser to give aid to the unconscious man and left the key in the ignition.

Police say Rademacher got into the cruiser, drove it a few blocks away and then took off.

He was arrested the following day, in the area of Fuller and Franklin Street, after detectives recognized him from the video.

On October 6th, the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office arraigned Rademacher on a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

His preliminary exam is scheduled for October 25, 2016.
