Portage woman robbed at gunpoint while sitting in her car

PORTAGE, MICH. - Police in Portage are searching the a man who they say robbed a woman while she was sitting in her car.

The robbery reportedly happened on Saturday night around 10:40 p.m. at the Crossroads Galleria on South Westnedge Avenue. 

Police say an the suspect walked up to her car, opened the door and demanded money. The robber took out a handgun and struck the woman over the head before grabbing her purse and running towards the Timberwood Crossing apartment complex.

Police issued a K-9 track, but ended unsuccessfully. 

The suspect is described as a black man with a medium build, approximately 6-foot and 180-pounds. He was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt, black pants and a black hat.

The case remains under investigation -- anyone with information is asked to contact Portage Public Safety at 269-329-4567 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
