MUSKEGON, MICH. - Rebekah Bletsch's family was in the front row as the prosecutor announced new charges Tuesday, Sept. 20, against Jeffrey Willis.
Willis was charged with Bletsch's murder earlier this year and Tuesday, he's accused of with murdering and kidnapping Jessica Heeringa in April 2013.
Bletsch's father told us that he doesn't know the Heeringa family, but he feels the pain they're going through. He says he's happy there's resolution for the Heeringa family with the new murder charge against Willis.
"I don't know any of them, but I have respect and love, my heart goes out to them," says Nick Winberg, Rebekah Bletsch's father.
The accused murderer in both cases is the same man.
"This individual, Mr. Willis, is a monster," said D.J. Hilson, the Muskegon County prosecutor.
Hilson announced the second murder charge against Jeffrey Willis in connection to the death of Herringa. The Bletch family sat close to hear the announcement.
"Personally, knowing all the pain I've gone through and my family, I know they've gone through a mountain of pain, and they'll continue to for a great while," Winberg said.
Bletsch was murdered in 2014. Investigators say she was shot in the head while jogging.
"It's good to know that this man the brutal murderer of my daughter and their daughter is going to sit in a courtroom, and he's going to pay for his crimes," Winberg said.
Bletsch's father is now wondering what else could be uncovered.
"Willis is a psychopathic murderer; we don't know what's going on in that mind, but most of it is evil I'm sure," Winberg said."What else has he done?
"Time will tell."
On Tuesday, Hilson said he wants to bring closure to this case before looking at others, but he encourages anyone with information on other potential cases to contact police.
Heeringa's family was not present at the courthouse for the announcement of the new murder charge against Willis.
