HOLLAND, MICH. - The Ottawa County prosecutor says he's seeking a misdemeanor charge against a Chicago teenager who spray-painted a memorial to two drowned friends at Holland State Park's north pier.
Prosecutor Ron Frantz says he's asking family court's juvenile division to consider a destruction of property charge for the 15-year-old boy. But, Frantz says the court would likely handle the charge informally, keeping it off the teenager's permanent record.
The spray painting was a tribute to 17-year-old Christopher Mimis. He and 14-year-old Vincent Green both drowned in Lake Michigan on Aug. 31.
The two teenagers were part of a group boys swimming at the park when the current pulled them out deeper into the lake.
