Testimony resumes in crash that killed mother and injured her son

Kent Co crash hearing

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Testimony resumed Wednesday in a hearing for a Kent County man, charged with leaving the scene of a crash that killed a young mother and injured her twin sons.

Douglas Crystal, is facing charges including reckless driving causing death, for the September crash on Ritchie Avenue at 15 Mile Road near Rockford.

Investigators say he ran a stop sign, hitting a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Meranda Baguss.

The Sand Lake woman died at the scene, her five-year-old sons were critically injured. Police found Crystal at his home on Stout Avenue, a few miles from the crash scene.

Investigators say he was going 91 miles an hour, five seconds before the crash. A judge late this afternoon determined there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.
