Two charged in connection with Musk. Hts. murder

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Muskegon County Prosecutor has charged two people in connection with the shooting death of Muskegon Heights basketball player Marquis Gresham.

Shundarius Lawson, 20, faces an open murder charge in the April 23 shooting of Gresham.

Gresham and a group of friends were walking along 5th Street to the Muskegon Heights High School basketball banquet when a SUV pulled up and someone inside fired several shots. Gresham was shot in the chest and died a short time later at Hackley Hospital.

Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson says Lawson is a habitual offender, and has a prior conviction for fleeing and eluding police.

Hilson says there were two known people in the SUV at the time of shooting. A second person, 19-year-old Ryheim Beasley, was arraigned Monday on charges of lying to police, a four-year felony.

Beasley is being held in the Ottawa County Jail so he does not have any contact with any other potential witnesses and suspects in the murder. The bond has been set for Beasley at $50,000.

Hilson says the murder investigation is not closed and there is no clear motive yet. He credits community members who came forward with information about the shooting which helped identify the suspects.
