Walker man's killer in Oregon left suicide note

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- We are learning more details about the death of a Walker man in Oregon.

David Hortman, 43, traveled to Oregon for an RV show, when he was shot Tuesday morning at Bastendorf Beach.

Officials say the gunman, Zachary Brimhall, first killed his father, then drove to beach and started firing at cars.

One of those vehicles was David Hortman's. It was hit about 18 times by gunfire. A bullet struck Hortman, and he died a short time later.

Brimhall then saw a police vehicle heading his way and shot himself in the head.

Suicide notes left by killer suggest he wanted to murder as many people as he could.

Investigators say the situation could have been worse, because there was a nearby campground that was filled with dozens of campers.
