Kalamazoo murder suicide

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - A man shot and killed himself and his ex-girlfriend while critically injuring their three-year-old son on Thursday, Nov. 9.

Nicholas Allen Mitchell Jr. is the suspect in the murder-suicide that occurred outside of a home in Kalamazoo on East Emerson Avenue.

Kalamazoo Police responded to a call around 6:40 a.m. of multiple gunshots and discovered three victims upon arrival. Crews performed life saving measures on the three victims, but the two adults were pronounced dead at the scene.

"Obviously the human element comes into fact, but as law enforcement officers as first responders, we're trained to react to these incidents, and as I stated life saving measures were immediately put into action for all three victims," Assistant Chief for Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Vernon Coakley said.
