Man drowns in Muskegon River

BROOKS TOWNSHIP, MICH. - The Muskegon River claimed the life of a young man Saturday.

Newaygo County Dispatchers confirm there was a drowning in the near the Devil's Hole section of the river around 4 p.m.

Newaygo County deputies report that a 25-year-old Grand Rapids man named Dwight Coleman, had gone missing while tubing on the river. Crews searched the river and found his body about 1 and a half miles downriver from where he went missing. 

Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Newaygo County deputies were assisted by the Newaygo Fire Department, Michigan DNR, Newaygo Police Department and the Michigan State Police.

The sheriff's office says this incident remains under investigation.
