Dozens of HBCUs to recruit students during college fair in Grand Rapids

HBCU College Readiness Fair at GRCC

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - West Michigan students thinking about college are invited to attend a special college fair this weekend.

Nearly three dozen Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or "HBCUs," will be recruiting students and handing out scholarships.

Organizers say the goal is to increase the number of African Americans who attend college and remove financial barriers. They say high school students with a GPA of at least 3.5 and an ACT score of at least 25 can get full scholarships to most HBCUs in the country.

The HBCU College Readiness Fair is Saturday, Oct. 15 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. It's taking place at the GRCC Ford Field Gymnasium which is located at 111 Lyon NE in Grand Rapids.

There will be on-site admissions.

Workshops include, financial aid, scholarships, college essay writing and finding the right school. Students are encouraged to bring their high school transcripts.
