GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - In the age of texting it seems like handwriting is becoming a lost art.
That's one of the reasons teachers from across the state gathered Saturday morning in Grand Rapids to learn new ways to teach cursive.
Using fun hands-on instructions makes it fun and easier to learn without a large time commitment, organizers said. While cursive is not mandated in Michigan schools, teachers argue that cursive helps in brain development and test-taking.
Some assert cursive is still important for students to know as they head to college and the workforce.
