RIF program at GRPS coming to an end after funding runs out

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The Grand Rapids Public Schools is discontinuing the local version of a nationwide program to provide new books to kids for free.

District representatives say Reading Is Fundamental was de-funded by the federal government years ago. The remaining surplus has run out.

A GRPS spokesperson says the 2017-2018 district budget was finalized and does not include funding for RIF.

A petition is now online, to keep the RIF program at GRPS. You can view the petition here.
