Fire crews put out house fire in Portage

PORTAGE, MICH. - Portage fire units were dispatched to the 6400 block of Angling Road just after 7 p.m. Saturday for a possible structure fire. 

Fire fighters tried to attack the fire from the inside but were forced out due to the flames. It took crews 90 minutes to get the fire under control. The estimated fire damage is $200,000 including contents.

The occupants were not present at the time of the incident. The initial investigation determined the fire started in the basement. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire Marshal.

Texas Township, Oshtemo Township, Comstock Township, Pavilion Township, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, and South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority provided assistance and staffing to Portage Fire Stations during the incident.
