New law means women will start receiving notification about dense breast tissue

GRAND RAPIDS,Mich. (WZZM) - A new law now in effect is aimed at protecting women at higher risk for breast cancer.

The Michigan Breast Density Law requires doctor's offices to notify women in the mail if they have dense breast tissue. Dense breasts can sometimes make detecting cancer more difficult and additional testing can be required.

WZZM 13 Health Reporter Valerie Lego talks with Mercy Health Breast Surgeon Dr. Jamie Caughran about how this new bill may affect you.
