Pink Tie Guys raise money to fight breast cancer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- It was guys' night out at the Watermark Country Club Wednesday evening, when a group of men gathered, playing a little golf and enjoying good food, drinks and cigars.

But this wasn't just a casual gathering.

These are members of the brand new Pink Tie Guys.

They are taking a pledge to help raise awareness about breast cancer.

Each man paid $1,008 for a ticket, representative of the fact that one in eight women will get breast cancer.

Jim Conners said, "When we think of it, that's our mothers, our daughters, our wives, our coworkers, potentially. We're affected, too, and so I thought it was a good way to get messaging to men on a man's level, and it's a great turn out."

The Pink Tie Guys plan to make this a yearly event.

The proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen West Michigan Chapter.

WZZM 13's Juliet Dragos and Val Lego joined the Komen chapter's executive director in crashing the party for a little bit, just to let the guys know how much they're appreciated.
