High winds send a street sign through woman's windshield

Strong winds damage Lowell woman's car

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - A Lowell woman says she's lucky to be alive after the heavy winds sent a street sign through her windshield on Wednesday.

Jill Decator was driving west on 1-96 right by the interchange to 131 near downtown Grand Rapids on Wednesday, March 8 when she saw the sign fluttering the air -- before it was launched through her windshield, shattering the glass.

Decator says it was the loudest noise she had ever heard, reflecting on how lucky she truly was.

"It could have come in on an angle, rather than how it did, flat on the window... It could have come in like a machete and it wouldn't have been pretty. So, I really could myself lucky,"  Decator said.

Her life was spared that day. Her windshield will cost her about $200 to fix, but that's a small price to pay when she is able to walk away from a situation like this.
