WASHINGTON, DC - Former West Michigan Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra may be under consideration for a prominent position in the new Trump administration.
There are rumors and reports he is on the short list for CIA Director.
In Congress, Hoekstra was Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee so he has experience President-elect Donald Trump might consider valuable at the CIA. Hoekstra says he has had some conversations with the transition team, but not about specific positions.
“I talk to people in the Trump campaign every couple of days and we have had some rather vague discussions,” he explains. “I’m not pushing them to rush into anything.”
Hoekstra was an early supporter of Donald Trump. He was co-chair of the Trump campaign in Michigan.
“I thought Mr. Trump was the best candidate,” he says. “If he has room for me in his administration I would be honored to go back into public service and serve in the Trump administration.”
Hoekstra left congress in 2011. He ran unsuccessful campaigns for Michigan governor and the U.S. Senate. He says he currently works for a Washington think tank focused on terrorism and international and domestic threats.
