2016 Michigan Farm Bureau Meeting begins in Grand Rapids

Downtown Grand Rapids is hosting the Michigan Farm Bureau's annual meeting.

GRAND RAPIDS - Grand Rapids is hosting the Michigan Farm Bureau's annual meeting this week.   Roughly 500 farmers from around the state are attending the event at the Amway Grand Plaza and Devos Place.

Agriculture is a $100 billion in Michigan and one of the state's largest economic drivers.  The meetings are a culmination of the Farm Bureau's grass-roots policy development process where members will finalize the organizations plans through the year.

One of the topics being discussed is how President-elect Donald Trump's immigration plan may effect their industry.  Helen Dietrich runs a farm in Conklin that employs 500 seasonal and migrant workers says,"I think there is some concern obviously, but we need to wait until we have this President and he becomes our President and we'll see what policies he's able to input, and go from there."

The Michigan Farm Bureau 2016 Annual Meeting runs through Thursday.
