Activities planned to help Newaygo firefighters

NEWAYGO, MICH. - Newaygo firefighter Andrew Bird is now back home from Florida to bury his sons and nurse his injured daughter, and members of the Newaygo Fire Department are thinking of new ways to assist their friend and colleague.

Friday night the fire department met and made plans for a spaghetti dinner, bake sale and silent auction to benefit Andrew Bird and his wife Sara.
Bird’s two sons ages 8 and 9 were killed and his 7 year old daughter was injured when their biological mother crashed last Saturday near Jacksonville.  Andrew and Sara are both Newaygo firefighters.

“We are part of a big family want to make sure they are taken care of,” says Fire Chief Jason Wolford.
“Make sure that they have what they need and to get everything taken care of to make sure they get settled back into home.”

Last week in Florida Andrew Bird told reporters his 7 year old daughter Nina, who survived the crash, is doing well physically but recovering emotionally will be a long process.  There is a “Go Fund Me” page set up by firefighters in Newaygo to help the family financially.
