ADA, MI (WZZM) - An Ada man says his cars and all of his hobbies are buried after the roof on his pole barn collapsed under tons of snow.
Tom Yost says the building was full of stuff he's accumulated in the 36 years since he built the barn.
"It's like somebody just sucked the wind out of you," he says, looking at the damaged building.
In the barn, under the wreckage of the roof and tons of snow, are 4 vehicles, a white water raft, a trailer, woodworking tools, projects and souvenirs.
"It's my shop," he says. "I work i
n there. Work on things for other people in there. And you know how you collect stuff."
Yost says he had just walked into his house after washing the 4 vehicles in the barn when he heard the loud boom of the roof collapsing.
If he had loitered a little longer in the barn, he says he could have been buried.
"Yep, I could have," he agrees. "I'm still in a state of shock.
A restoration company is arranging a crane to gently life the broken timbers and sheet metal to see what can be salvaged.
"The building has been up since 1978 and it's never been an issue before," he says. "But the snow we have this year is above and beyond."
