Police ID bicyclist killed in suspected DUI crash

ADA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A 61-year-old Newaygo County man may face charges after police say he struck and killed a bicyclist while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday on Egypt Valley Avenue near 3 Mile Road NE.

Kent County deputies say Jeffrey Dykehouse, 52, was riding a bicycle northbound on Egypt Valley when he was hit from behind by a Mercury SUV. Dykehouse, a father of five and avid photographer, was killed.

According to Michigan State Police records, Steven Jones, 61, of Bitely, was arrested for drunken driving, however he has not yet been charged in connection with Dykehouse's death. The Kent County Prosecutor's Office is awaiting results of a blood toxicology test.

Deputies say they are still investigating details that led up to the collision.
